Aurora GI: LED-Ready General Illumination for WPC Pinball Machines

Stop the flicker. Keep the machine cool. Take control of your lighting.

If you've converted your WPC machine to LEDs, you've probably seen the problem. The original electronics were designed for filament bulbs, and they don't drive LEDs properly. LEDs can flash and strobe, brightness changes are abrupt, and the heat around the power driver board is hard on your connectors.

Aurora GI fixes this. It replaces the original GI string drivers and drives your LEDs correctly, and it plugs straight into the existing wiring. There's no soldering, no cutting and no modification to your machine.

Why buy Aurora GI

  • Replaces the worn-out original GI circuit. The original GI drivers on the power driver board run hot, and after years of use the board and its GI connectors are often heat damaged. Aurora GI takes over the job completely. The GI wiring plugs into Aurora GI instead, so that part of the power driver board is left unpowered and unused. Fitting Aurora GI can cost less than having the damaged power driver board repaired.
  • No more flashing. A new power supply drives the strings correctly, so your LEDs look steady and smooth.
  • Smooth, natural brightness changes. GI strings change brightness gradually from one level to the next, and you choose how quickly.
  • Keeps up with fast lighting effects. Adaptive ramping tells the difference between occasional GI changes and fast GI effects. Occasional changes stay smooth, while fast flashes and quick effects stay sharp, just as the game designers intended.
  • Dim the backbox during play. Set chosen strings to a brightness of your choice while a game is in progress. This is ideal for cutting the glare from bright backbox LEDs.
  • Set your own brightness levels. Define the brightness of each of the eight levels separately for every string.
  • Pair strings together. Make one string copy another, even on WPC-95 machines, where the original electronics can't dim two of the strings.
  • Cooler and kinder to your machine. Aurora GI runs efficiently and significantly reduces the heat produced in the backbox.
  • Built-in protection. Aurora GI monitors the current your strings draw and protects the machine and wiring from overloads and short circuits.
  • Built-in troubleshooting. Test each string in turn, without the machine's game code in control. You can tell immediately whether a fault is in the machine or in your lamps, connectors or wiring.
  • A status light that shows the board's health at a glance.

Fitted in minutes, with just a screwdriver

Swap the ribbon cable, unplug four connectors, stick the board to the heat sinks on the power driver board and plug everything back in. Then bolt the ground lead to the backplate. Every connection is plug-in, apart from one screw for the ground lead.

Set it up your way

Connect a computer with Chrome or Edge using a USB-C cable and open the free configuration tool to change settings. There's nothing to install and no drivers are needed. Firmware updates are simple too.

Compatibility

Bally / Williams WPC-89, WPC-S and WPC-95 machines. Aurora GI is designed for machines whose GI lamps have been mostly converted to LED.

What's in the box
